There are lots of different finishes for magnetic wire. You may have gotten
a high temp finish instead of what you are use to. Abrasion or high temp
solder are the best ways to remove it.

Subject: [TN] REMOVING VARNISH ON TRANSFORMER

Have a issue with a very small transformer that the varnish is near to
impossible to remove from the end of the wire. In the past we did not
have a problem and yes we are going to contract the manufacture but they
are closed on Fridays.

The specification for the wire to be used is RM5P-CB1-6 and I have been
unable to find it searching the internet. Some transformer the varnish
did come off with heat from a soldering iron but several were not
affected by heat. Scrapping is not what I prefer and even when the
operator tried that it was difficult to almost impossible to remove.

Question: could it be the incorrect wire used or a defect in the
varnish applied or that process to apply the varnish? Just picking your
brains on a Friday, Thanks for any suggestion and I will let you know
next week what we find out from the manufacture of the transformer. Jon
