A historical progression of surrogate warfare:
Rugby = Conan era style village brawl to bet the hogs head across the
open ground to their home turf while wearing wearing naught by their
knickers and cleats (aka "boots").
American Football = set piece trench warfare
Association Football (aka Soccer) = Modern warfare w/ no frontlines.
Sides engaged in running, non-stop battle to overwhelm opponents OODA loop.
