Bev,

Not that this necessarily is the same situation, but I once had reels of critical parts which required rebaking due to a lack of moisture controls by the supplier. We opted to de-reel, bake, and re-reel, using the same tape, rather than risk the deformation possibility of the thermal cycle.

I am curious how long at 40C was the recommended bake?

Phil

Paul,
I started asking this because I was told that two very large component
suppliers, that many of you would know if I were able to tell you (can't -
NDA), had said that their reels of parts could not be baked at 40C. But
when I went back and looked at it myself, AFTER I started this e-mail chain,
I found that it says cannot heat ABOVE 40C. BIG difference. I consider
this one closed.

Stockroom thought they had that problem....

Turned out to be 2 things:
    1) the IR from the heating elements directly irradiating the black
reels due to reflections in the oven
    2) the reels were too close to the IR shield meant to eliminate
direct IR exposure to material in the oven...

Have not seen any blue or white reel problems yet...

I haven't seen any material ID for the reels themselves so but I suppose
someone will eventually want to use a cheaper low temp material...

Why do you ask Bev?

Paul

TechNetters,
Have any of you heard of reels that can't be baked at 40C?
