Hi folks! Ok, here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer (I am heading out for
a week of whitewater kayaking in North Carolina so sorry for posting the
answer earlier than normal):
The Question:
This element is a potent neurotoxin - only 600 mg of the element sulfate
species will induce respiratory paralysis. The largest commercial use of
this tasteless, odorless element sulfate species is an active ingredient
in poison. It is a soft, HCP metal and has an ultimate tensile strength of
only 10 MPa. The source of this element is primarily the by product of
Zinc production. The electronics industry is the majority user of this
element but annual production is estimated to only 15 tons/year. Who am I?
The Answer:
The element in question is = Thallium!
There were several responses suggesting Arsenic but it has significant
more production in comparison to Thallium.
The winner of the Friday Element Quiz is Bev Christian and Drew Meyer gets
honorable mention due to secondary research. My guess is that Doug is now
going to have a birthday on a Canadian holiday!
Everyone have a good weekend/holiday.
