Ioan, FYI, depending on the extent of cold work, austenitic stainless can exhibit a degree of magnetism, albeit weak.

You are close, it's Austenitic and Martensitic. But are they non-conditionally RoHS compliant?
Looks like we have to specify, or check our customers did, 300 series, in order to validate with the magnet... sounds like a plan.

Typically, 300 series steel, which I think is called Austinetic (spelling is probably wrong) is not magnetic, and is much more corrosion resistant.
Type 400 series SS, which I believe is referred to as Martinistic, is a much cheaper grade, and much more prone to corrosion, and is magnetic.

A rookie sort of question : can Stainless Steel be blindly considered RoHS compliant? Otherwise said, is there any SS hardware that could have any of the buggers (mainly Cd or Cr6)?
Also, could some SS fall under the Pb exemption for machining?
And finally, some SS alloys are magnetic, some other aren't. Can SS hardware used in our industry be magnetic?
As you already guessed it, what I am trying to figure out is if I can make an incoming selection based on magnets. If non-magnetic = accept, if magnetic = reject.
