Never has been and never could be if you want your display to last more 
than 5 minutes. Only inert gases can be used in this application and is 
generally a mixture of xenon and neon, possibly with some helium in some 
cases. A minute amount of nitrogen is sometimes added to match the decay 
time of the phosphors, although this tends to reduce the screen lifetime.
