I use POPFile for automatic classification of how e-mails are treated.
For example, a single profanity (or even 2 or 3) would be ignored and
the message would go to the right mailbox, PROVIDED that the rest of the
message is relevant to the subject. For example, if I receive a diatribe
about printed circuits that ends up with the popular phrase, "F**k you,
Jack, I'm all right!", it WILL go into the named IPC mailbox. OTOH, if
the words "solder mask" are preceded several times by "f**king" or other
mixed or unmixed obscenities, it will go to the Delete box, from where
it can be manually recovered, should the need arise.

The beauty of the system is that it is so sensitive that it can
differentiate between contexts. For example, you can subscribe to, say,
three forums (like TechNet, LeadFree and EnviroNet) and a number of
individuals, all treating the same subject. Each forum can go
automatically into its own mailbox, while a private message from Inge,
Joe, Werner or Doug will go into my Personal file; this is typically
about 99.75% accurate, after training over a few hundred e-mails (~90%
after the first 20 or 25 of mixed subjects). Why this accuracy? Because
it parses every word in the header, subject and text and it "learns" the
path(s) an e-mail may take to reach here, as well as analysing the text
content as most other systems do. If it is in doubt (very rare), the
message goes into an "Unclassified" box. Manually taking it out of there
and putting it where it belongs is how it learns from its doubts.

I've used this system for donkey's years and grown up with it as it has
evolved. It has one potential downside: un-pre-filtered spam can require
a couple of minutes of double-checking per day, but you can usually do
this rapidly from the sender (especially if Nigerian!!!) or the subject
line. In my case, I pre-filter with my ISP's spam filter set to its
minimum sensitivity, resulting in a max of 5-10 spams/day in my Delete
box, most or all of which are obvious.

Somebody used the S word in a post, and then everyone who responded (if they quoted the original message below their post) got blocked along with the original miscreant.

But most of us work for companies that make their own rules, so for the sake of my own productivity, and maybe to avoid offending the more evolved sensibilities of some in this group, I respectfully request that we please "Watch them woids".
