Be glad you are not living in Switzerland or England or Sweden or other 
countries.  If you belong to the 'middle class' , your income tax is a dream 
for many of us on the other side of the pool-

25,000 $ per year :  California  Income tax  2.5 %    Total  fed tax with 
social security and medicare  15 %

If you make a comparison with some european countries you can easily reach a 
total of >50% !

I have friends that moved to Cal, they prosper in a way that was unthinkable 
in their homeland.
