I experience a similar situation. The vendor could be using a two stage molding process. Process solvents could be attacking the outer shell. Conduct x-sect to confirm homogeneous package material. Molding compound could be degrade with normal process temperatures. What is Tg of package?

Linda,

Are your ordering straight from the manufacturer? If not, these could be
counterfeit parts. I am not for sure of any IPC standards that talk about
connector qualification. I would be more worried about UL (Underwrites
Laboratory) ratings. From the pictures, it seems as most have been burning
(possibly from arcing) in the same location. Is there any high voltage
around those area, and if not, could any failure conditions cause high
voltage to be in that area?
