If I remember right, Earl was ruined, could hardly get money for his daily 
needs.  He couldn't afford a doctor for  his illness.  Can't understand how 
a renowned person like him could end like that.

(The way  we live and treat each other rises the question if we aren't all 
still troglodytes.)
