I'm not sure, but I think tungsten steel alloy is still used for high 
pressure off shore tubes.  You get extremly strong tubes which have to 
withstand the pressure difference down more than 3,000 meters deep on the 
ocean bottom.  Despite the use of such tubing, an undersea explosion in the 
Golf destroyed the deep sea tubes and valves, as you know from the news.
