Speaking Greece and Rome, it's remarkable what a heritage mess we are
living with/in. Hence we have:
Monday : Moon's day
Tuesday: keltic god Tiw
Wednesday: anglosaxian god Wodan
Thursday: nordic god Thor
Friday: nordig got Frey
Saturday: Saturnus day, roman
Sunday: keltic, nordic, a universal mix

January: roman god Janus
February: febreeum or day of purification
Mars: roman war god with same name
April: roman aperire or open (spring)
May: roman Maia, fertility goddess
June: roman Juno, Jupiter's wife
July: of course after emperor Julius
August: ditto Augustus
September: seventh month in roman calender
October: eighth month ditto
November: ninth month ditto
December: tenth ditto

Autumn: roman autumnum, time for harvesting
Winter: welsh goddess Gwyn
Summer: indogermanic zomer
Spring: probably latin spira, a warm wind

Why on earth do we have all these spoky things Year 2010?
Well, who can come with plausible substitutes?

Inge
