I agree totally that replacement is the best option to reduce risk. Has
to be balanced against the cost and availability of the parts though, if
it is a $1000 piece, or if it is an "end of life" buy device and you
can't get more... other options have to be looked at and evaluated.
But yes - compromising quality isn't an option.

We are customer who uses contract assemblers, we want them to tell us
this happened. Mistakes do happen.
We'd replace them and to make sure they didn't get used, have them
returned to us and we would toss the damaged parts in the dumpster.

Amol,

The leads are quite fragile on these components, and I'd really think
twice before trying to repair them. Bending them back and forth only
weakens the junction at the molded body, and placing them into any high
reliability application after doing this is downright dangerous.

Subject: [TN] Lead Straightning on FIne Pitch QFPs

Dear Technetters,
Have any of you availed of lead straightening services to recover parts
with bent leads? We have some fine pitch QFPs that have bent leads (X-Y
and Z) due to improper storage in the Matrix Trays. Just looking for
some advice on best practices, common pitfalls, things to look out for
and such.

Thanks,
Amol
