Jerry,

It would seem that the routed edge would be smoother and incur much less
mechanical damage to the glass/epoxy interface (assuming a sharp bit) than
the traditional pizza cutter where one segment is literally torn from the
other.

My vote is that pizza cutting will aggravate the problem of liquid
incursion, but would not hazard to guess by what acceleration factor.

Are they willing to have fiberglass chunkies floating around in their
chemical???  Pizza cutting will provide many more.


Without telling you what chemical it is, one can only generalize and suggest
that pizza cutting would yield more loose particulates and more mechanical
damage to the separated edge of the board.

Hello all,
 
We have a customer with a unique application.  Part of a 6 layer FR4 PCB
will be immersed in a chemical flow.  They conducted tests using a board
with routed edges and were successful.  
 
This application would work better if we could use V-scored boards.  The
boards would be separated with a "pizza cutter" style de-paneler. The
total edge length in contact with the chemical would be almost 18".  
 
Does anyone have any information to suggest the V-score would perform
worse than a routed edge when it came to chemical intrusion.
Unfortunately I do not know what the chemical is so I am unable to tell
you what it is.
