How is it that on all foreign cars everything from dirty seat belt buckles jamming to occasional accelerator problems are recalls and there is no cost to the owner?
Every time I have a design problem on an American car it goes out as a technical bulletin so that when the problem occurs you have to pay to get the problem fixed:
1. Cadillac 2003-2005 CTS and probably Impalas: New software to resolve security key and communications error that causes engine lockout. You may need to have your car towed $100 plus $150- $250 get the system reprogrammed and program both keys to the new code. MFG error that you have to pay for?
2. Ford Explorer engine error code, diagnostic says cooling blower not working. Problem intake air allows moisture to get sucked in and ruin the blower motor. You pay for a new snokel kit and the new blower motor with new harness to fix their design error. Without this blower you get terrible gas mileage.
3. Many of the old Chevy cars and trucks: Leaves get sucked into the heating resistors in a box on the firewall. Apparently there is no filter for the intake air of the heater's blower motor. These heating coils are for the various fan speeds.
The dried leaves catch fire unless your lucky and the resistors overheat and causes you to loose the low speed fan. I opened up the box to replace the coils (called resistors) and found all the leaves clogging it. It is a technical bulletin because it only effects cars driven where there are a lot of leaves, especially in the fall. Once again we pay for the design error.
