Yes I forgot on my previous post. All of our cleanable flux is water soluble, all is from the same manufacturer, and all is compatible.

Yes and Yes,
but you are in the hands of your material suppliers.
Flux/solder if you are using water soluble types, flux and cleaner supplier if you're not. In either case you will need to verify effectiveness for yourself in some way. As cleanability is not enhanced by multiple reflows whatever the flux type.
Some water sol fluxes will not wash off completely following extended delay and multiple reflow. They continue to react with surfaces making less soluble bye-products. Others are developed with delayed cleaning in mind.
This is a supplier specific issue and not related to flux class.

Mike

Subject: [TN] Eliminating interemediate washes

Dear Technos,

Is it doable to wash a mixed technology board ( SMT + TH) only at the end of TH?

I mean instead of repeatedly washing (SMT first side-wash, SMT second side-wash, TH-wash, manual soldering-wash) adopting a one wash strategy (SMT first side-no wash, SMT second side-no-wash, TH-no wash, manual soldering-wash). TH might not be done in the same day as SMT, but no later than next day and boards washed within 3 hours after wave soldering.

Is anybody in the industry doing this?

Pros and cons?

Thanks,
