You are correct!  Inductive heating of the work pieces [followed by reflow
of the adjacent perform] is not a new concept.

I believe that the 'purpose' of the 'magnetic solder' was to heat the
'solder', however.  

Just not sure how 'beneficial' this would be though  :-)

I have successfully used Induction Heating to develop soldering process for
University of Texas ALPAS project.  The solder used was 80 % Au and 20% Sn
(solder # 182) and a high temperature flux Superior #71. The metal joined
were BeCu bar to BeCu ring. The induction heating was the only feasible
solution for the assembly weighing about 500 pounds. There is no need for
iron filings in solder for induction heating to be used.
