An alternative would be a forum like Altium has, where I get e-mails
that are purely text but with a link to the web site that shows the
message but with the image attachment visible. Unfortunately you can
have only one attachment per message.

My 2 cents
Stay as we are if possible.
Plain text is OK 98% of the time, and for the other 2% we have Steve! Of
course if Steve does not wish to continue or is unable to continue that
would be different!
I think plain text is good not just for download speed, but also
archiving
and storage, space and speed. No virus etc in plain text attachment free
message. Finally I would have to work round social networking and
similar
sites.

Regards

Mike

Yes, for instance, we're blocked now from LinkedIn and I can't even get
in turn it off or change my e-mail address to a non-company one.

This may exclude some participants where their IT departments prohibit
the viewing of social networking sites and the like.
I've had to pull rank to get YouTube visible here because technical
videos get published there.
Other companies may not be prepared to bend their rules.

Technetters,

First of all I want to emphasize that the suggestion in this email is
not at all meant as criticism of Steve and his efforts in uploading
pictures and maintaining that site. I realize Steve has to make a living
and may not be able to post pictures as quickly as we need at times. I
have learned so much from these pics so that is why this is important to
me. I am suggestion a more automatic approach. This solution will allow
us to view pictures instantly. If the consensus is that the current
system is good enough I do not have a problem with that.

My suggestion is to use Google Picasa Web albums. This is a free service
created to allow sharing of photos. It also allows pictures to be posted
by email. There is a specific email address that is unique to each
account. For my personal web album I send an email to
llaerum.<secretword>@picasaweb.com. I am using this quite a bit to shate
photos with friends and family. The pictures gets posted within a minute
or two. The pictures get posted with a caption that is the subject of
the email. of the email. All we would have to do when posting pics is to
copy the "post-to-picasa" email address. Google gives you 1 Gigabyte of
storage so we would have to employ some management and remove the oldest
pictures. The only drawback is that Picasa does not allow documents
which on occasion would be nice.

I am not sure if the admin of technet would have to concur before
setting this up? I would like to have some sort of "thumbs up" from the
owners of the technet email reflector before setting this up. I
volunteer to be the admin.
