As solderability of finished leads does decrease with time and temperature by copper-tin diffusion it is not enough to control humidity for long term storaged (20 Years) leaded components.
Are there any recommendations to control long time solderability levels for thin finishes, thick finishes, goldfinishes, finishes with nickel barrier etc.?
Are there any experineces to keep long term solderability by storing in low temperetaure? (which decreases copper-tin diffusion speed)
Are there any recommedations/rules to distinguish between parts/component-classes which are suitable to recover solderability by hot solder dip and parts/component-classes which are not or problematic.?

Sincerly

Michael Jeremias,

Want assembly area low static, storage area low corrosive and low moisture.

Moisture in the air is helpful in ESD control. It is bad for MSD. I have always tried to keep locations where sensitive parts will be handled below 50% RH and above 30% RH.

Subject: [TN] Ideal Component Storage RH Levels

Good morning, everyone.

After a long weekend of working inventory, I received a question today regarding the recommended RH levels for our component storage rooms. I know there is probably not a "one size fits all" answer. Definitely, an "it depends" kinda thing...

But assuming all of our MSDs are kept in vacuum sealed bags until ready for use, will some of you please share your thoughts regarding this?

Thanks,

Leland
