I'm in the same boat. After 35 years in Process/Manufacturing Engineering I may have to go back to being an electronics technician or a test EA, building functional test equipement and test. I've considered being a field service engineer but only if I can drive to the different sites. I've done some installation and training for a week here and there for some companies transitioning products to Mexico.

The other choice is to use my plumbing, flooring, cparpentry and remodeling experience to work on home improvements.

I have all the equipment and have a good album of projects that I've done in my apartment houses and my home. I have started adding them to Bob Villas web site in hopes of winning a prize.

 - I was even thinking of doing something my father used to do; trade staying at a vacation home in return for painting and fixing it up. I could do condo/homes near a ski area in the winter and beach condo's or homes in the spring and summer.

The third option is to continue to work on two new designs, one that could be a very profitiable business in the energy field and the other design is sports related. The challange here is the cost for the patents.

Subject: [TN] So long for now... (sniffle, sniffle)

Well, the economy has taken its toll in the electronics industry in SW Ohio
(laid off on Jan 2009).  Received training in IT technology (state paid for
it) earlier in 2009, since employment prospects were sparse (can't move for
personal reasons).  So I accepted a position with a local career college as
a site IT technician; decent pay, good working conditions, challenges every
day if not every hour, never a dull moment.

Said that to say this:  Been wonderful conversing with all the great minds
and people on TechNet and DesignerCouncil, but it's time to say "so long for
now."  Loved doing board design for over 30 years.  Keep on connectin' the
dots, as one EE would tell me.

Kind Regards to All,

Roger "hate to go" Stoops
