Well, it depends. Depends on the coating used and how tied you are to
cosmetics. Usually, the chemicals used to strip the coating for rework
clean the rework site as well. When these flux removers are used to
remove the flux from rework, it might affect the gloss of the coating, but
for the coatings we used, we determined that it was cosmetic only, not a
functional degradation. But it depends on the coatings used.

As I have told many a person here, isopropyl alcohol SUCKS as a cleaner.
Sucks sucks sucks. Horrid. Awful. Rotten. I could go on, but seem to
have misplaced my thesaurus.
I would recommend either Chemtronics Heavy Duty Flux Off (yes, that is an
actual name) or Kyzen's Cybersolv 141R.

[TN] Cleaning for Hand Soldering
Technetters:
Can you a please weigh in on the following question .....
One of our customers' hand soldering processes uses Kester 186
rosin liquid flux=A0 along with SN63/PB37=A0 rosin core solder. They
currently use 99% isopropyl alcohol for cleanin and want to get away from
this method.
The options being considered are:
1) Kontakt PCC (out of Europe)
2) Ecoline Techspray
Does anyone have any experience with either product good or bad?
