Regarding the statement - " An example illustrates the point.  In England
septic and sewage waste is reused as fertilizer for foodstocks (they have
best management practices that ensure metals are not present and the waste
is composted to sterilize it (kill pathogens)).  We here in the USA refuse
to do that.  The concentrated solid waste goes to landfills or is dumped in
deep ocean."


I was aware of soil injection of municipal sludge taking place in
mid-Indiana [West Lafayette area] 10-15 years ago because my neighbor caught
heck for allowing it on his farm.  My current neighbor here in mid-Michigan
also does it, but I believe it is dairy-doo [watch out for hormones and
antibiotics and not necessarily heavy metals....].

Is there a definitive nation-wide law against injecting/dumping municipal
sludge??

Will have to check with the local waste treatment facility to see what
happens to the sludge...
