Hi Brian,

You said that you use some "darn good software" for voice recognition. I'm
curious as to what it is. I've used "Dragon Naturally Speaking" and it was
pretty good but still had problems and going back and correcting things when
I changed my mind about something was cumbersome.

I am desolated at hearing your news.  I sincerely hope that there will
be some recovery.  I presume that the problem is in the optic nerve
rather than in the eye itself?

In 1977, my wife had a massive stroke which left her threequarters blind
and right side paralysed.  You would hardly know it now to see her, she
has roughly half vision and, although still weak on the right, she walks
normally (for a lady of her age!) Her right arm and hand are not too
good but not helped by severe arthritis, either.

A few years ago, I had two relatively minor strokes at an interval of
about one year.  My right hand and arm, especially after the second one,
were pretty useless (which is why I grew a beard, as I couldn't shave!).
  Although the hand is still weak, I can do most things except open
jars, sign cheques and credit cards vouchers.  It took several weeks
before there was very significant recovery, but the recovery there was
and this is always hopeful.  Incidentally you may care to know that
because my typing has slowed down considerably as a result, I am
dictating this message using a darn good software.

I don't know what your views are in terms of religion, but I just sent a
