Some years ago I was with a laser cutting house and we used to make a handy
sum each month from improperly executed V scoring. Ironic as it's supposed
to be cheap process. The execution was usually to specification but
specification was poor. Edge of score not centre of score, depth of score
was not deep enough etc.
Sometimes it was bad execution. So my typical question would be:
would you like our cut to your drawing - which puts it in the score
wall/next to score etc - or should we put it at the bottom of existing
score?

Either way, naturally these problems were only discovered after boards had
been assembled and would not snap out. So we had to dance the laser round in
short notice overtime shifts. Hence the handy sums......

Regards

Mike

Subject: Re: [TN] V-Scores and board dimension

You want to keep it simple and dimension to a score centerline.

If you start dictating the "edge" of the score, too many variables come into

play. ie- score angle, score depth vs pcb thickness, and differing pcb
thicknesses, etc..

On our arrays we always just provide dimensions to score centerline. We
created our array document from discussions with our pcb manufacturers, and
now they really like our documentation!

When in doubt, call one of your pcb manufacturers and ask them.

Dear Technetters,
When you specify V-Scores as a means to depanel the boards, where do you
measure the final board dimensions from? The V-score web (score line) or the

top edge of the Vees?

Thanks,
Amol
