Sorry all.  I used the IAu subject line for thread following.
To recap:  We supposedly have IAu and hard Au on the same board.  I was led to believe (by the equipment manufacturer) that nano-identation would be a cost effective way to prove this.  It MAY be possible, but not with my sample.
SEM-EDS was part of the project (Phosphorous came in at 7%).  The EDS seemed to be working at low levels (it picked up trace Gallium from a FIB cut).
But we didn't find any Cobalt in the contact area, which was unexpected...

It has been quite a learning experience for me.  Thanks for the excellent feedback.  I believe the moral to the story is:  you better trust your offshore fab, because to prove out IPC-4552 and MIL-G-45204 conformance from a completed product is likely cost prohibitive.
