Hi,

I would second Illustrator. A pain to learn but a really top notch
application.

Any app that outputs a .PDF should be useable. Illustrator will read in a
.pdf as a native file format. Few, if any, apps give you the same control
over generating .pdf files as Illustrator.

Ultimately, Adobe Illustrator is the vector art format of choice for the
silkscreen house.
So your plan could work very easily by importing the dxf panel file into
Illustrator, then creating the artwork, then converting all the fonts to
outlines for final submission to the silkscreen house. At that point the
dxf can be re-exported from Illustrator if necessary for any reason you
may need for your internal systems.

Thanks,

Subject: [TN] Generating silk screens for front panels not circuit
boards

We are having a discussion about how silk screens should be generated
for front control panels. Our design software has been AutoCAD, Pro-E
and we are now switching to Solidworks. In the past we generated a "silk
screen" file using AutoCAD that would be sent out listing font size and
width. A recent vendor couldn't cope with these outputs.

I'm proposing generating the files in CorelDRAW (or Adobe Illustrator)
using DXF outputs of the raw panel with all the holes and other features
so I don't put lettering where it doesn't belong.

The concern with my idea is that my file is completely generated from
scratch and not "controlled" by the Pro-E or Solidworks master file.

How do your companies handle this problem?

Thanks in advance,
