We either load the AutoCAD file into our gerber software and generate a photoplot or send our silkscreen house a plot of the drawing and they photograph the plot.

Subject: [TN] Generating silk screens for front panels not circuit boards

We are having a discussion about how silk screens should be generated for front control panels. Our design software has been AutoCAD, Pro-E and we are now switching to Solidworks. In the past we generated a "silk screen" file using AutoCAD that would be sent out listing font size and width. A recent vendor couldn't cope with these outputs.

I'm proposing generating the files in CorelDRAW (or Adobe Illustrator) using DXF outputs of the raw panel with all the holes and other features so I don't put lettering where it doesn't belong.

The concern with my idea is that my file is completely generated from scratch and not "controlled" by the Pro-E or Solidworks master file.

How do your companies handle this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Phil Nutting
