Here in western lower Michigan we received 6-9" of wet snow, with outside temps just below freezing. Just the right conditions for ice formation.
With economic situations the way they are, if schools shut down, the road commissions appear to clear the roads less enthusiastically [read as - not at all in the more rural areas].
Our roads into town are literally solid ice. One can safely travel at 40-50 mph without concern - unless one attempts a rapid change in vector, or velocity - then all bets are off! So in the wee hours of the morning, before the grannies are up, the flow is pretty good. After that, plan on a long slow drive. Most people get their 'snow legs'. Some never do, and find the ditch [or non-road surface, or object].
It is always good to remember physics! Momentum can be a real friend when going up an icy hill, but can be nasty when reducing velocity. It is just best to slow down and be vigilant of other drivers and conditions.
As an unpaid point of view - am trying out a set of Bridgestone Blizzak tires on the vehicles. They seem to do VERY well on ice and snow. Not an all-weather tire. Rubber is too soft for running on bare roads, but sure grips well on the snow and ice!

Well, it's snowing here in Austin, Texas so I'm waiting for everything to shut
down so we can all go home. Accumulation is expected to be less than 1", and
it'll probably melt in 20-minutes, but that's a major snow storm here in Austin.
