 Hi Victor,
This is one of the problems with HALT—it is so severe and unconnected to real use conditions, that you can get failure indications that are not pertinent to the reliability of your product. You really should have used IPC-9701.
Now you do not know whether or not you have a problem. In terms of partial cracks and failure definition, you may want to ookl at my column in the January issue of Global SMT & Packaging.

Werner

Subject: [TN] Solder Joint Fracture

Fellow TechNetters:

What is IPC position on a solder joint fracture on a gull wing
connection. What percentage of fracture on the IMC region and/or bulk
solder is permissible? Post Reliability, HALT.

Victor,
