My short version of the downside of portables:
1) Need a PILE of 0201s or 01005s - better hope your new product engineer bought enough!
2) More paperwork and costs to use a portable in Canada than they are worth.

Leland,

The XRF is very portable, we use it portable all the time. The IPAQ is a bit of a pain but the analyzer is very portable. Goes anywhere, plug in the battery, crank up the IPAQ, hook up the nose clip the gun does its Initializing and Standardizing and off you go. (with spare battery in your back pocket)

Subject: [TN] Lead Free Analyzers

Folks,

Since we're on the subject of RoHS, can someone please recommend a good,
accurate, handheld lead free analysis unit, and its approximate cost?

We have a SEM and an XRF, but was wondering if we might be able to
identify something a bit more portable to use in areas besides the lab.

Thanks,

Leland
