I forgot to mention, the 1012B preheater and the 850B hot air system are
thermocouple controlled systems, and the price of both units together is
only about $2500. Not only that, but by buying these two units, you
qualify for a third item free.
It is a great system. We use it here at GD, and we never touch chip caps
or resistors with an iron. That is an obsolete and archaic practice.

You can purchase it from Hisco in Franklin, or from HMC in Canton.

What you want is Hakko's 1012B infrared bottomside heater, and their
850B hand held hot air wand.
You also want to read IPC-7711/7721 section 2.5 (Baking/Preheating).
Pre-bake the boards and then remove the old parts per section 3.3.2.
Replace with NEW capacitors per section 5.3.1 with the Hakko system.
Chip capacitors are cheap.
If you must use a solder iron, refer to section 5.3.2, but DO NOT TOUCH
THE COMPONENTS WITH THE SOLDER IRON. TOUCH ONLY THE PAD.

Subject: [TN] Need a hot air or IR rework station

We have some high voltage multiplier boards that measure about 17 inches
by 17 inches square and we need to be able to easily rework sixty four
1825 MLCC capacitors on each board. We have 65 boards to rework. To
date we have had issues with the capacitors cracking or increasing in
value after hand soldering.

What is a reasonably priced system that could perform this task?
Offline comments welcome.

Oh, and we need the equipment NOW!

Thanks in advance.
