There are specific PEMS designed for pcb materials, in differing
thicknesses. See their website at www.pemnet.com. If you are having the
assembly made by a CM, you may want to discuss your requirement with them,
as they may have their own guidelines. I have used many PEMs over the
years, in FR4, aluminum enclosures, and other various composites. I have
always had surprisingly good results when they are used as intended and
installed correctly. You may have a significant component "keep out" for
tooling and pcb stresses, depending on your application. good luck. Lenny

Subject: [TN] PEM (rivets) in PCB
Is anybody out there aware of any spec/inspection criteria/documentation on
how to specify/design/inspect Pem type fasteners?
We have a design that may require this, but I'm not willing to commit until
I have some more background info. Specifically, is this a normal process for
a board shop? Are there any 'gotcha's'?
Thanks.
