Yes, for a gullwing lead, the most important part of the SJ is the heel fillet. Depending a the length of the lead foot, the toe fillet is not important at all (for a long compliant foot) or quite important (for a short stubby stiff foot). But in either case, the heel fillet is most important.

I keep hearing : "the force of the gull wing pin joint is in the heel". What is 
the truth of this affirmation?

 

Werner, I must confess not having practiced much reliability issues after your 
class, so I must have forgotten stuff, but I don't remember you praising the 
heel. I'm in some polemics here and wouldn't want to falsely blast the other 
side.
