Out of curiosity - I did a quick check on a board with SR coating and
our AOI (Mirtec) seemed useable. The reflectance is lower with an SR
coating than bare solder so the joints are easier identify on the dozen
components I looked at. The machine uses a subtraction of horizontal -
vertical lighting to identify fillets. I probably would make separate
models for coated vs. uncoated. Part making seemed readable with the
normal settings. That being said - I would inspect prior to coating to
aid process feedback, simplify rework, ...etc. The MV2-HT fits in the
low volume niche well.

FWIW,
Mike

I replied to this off line with different recommendations.
I agree completely with your assessment of the Saki, and they have very
good
customer support.
The MVP is arguably the best for volume but not for quick turn very
short
run applications.
I too doubt the ability of any machine to inspect solder through
coating.
It makes more sense to inspect before coating.

No AOI machine can inspect reliably through conformal coat, except for
possibly missing parts. The coating and thus the reflection of light is
to variable.
And the best AOI machine out there is MVP. Easily the best. Another
excellent one for the money is Saki.

Does anyone have a recommendations for a good low volume AOI machine. We
use UR and AR conformal coatings so some of the assemblies will be
inspected through it. Let me know off-line.

Thanks,
