Now I'm getting the picture. We're after the foil thickness, and the
way you suggest below I believe would work. I just have to figure out
how to rig up the device.

As for the first part of my question, I guess no one actually performs a
thickness verification of their incoming framed stencils (or if they do,
they don't subscribe to this forum).

Thanks, everyone, for your input!

Leland

Are you looking to measure foil thickess or etched aperture depth?
Using an indicator, you would mount it to a stand / surface plate, then
you zero the indicator on the plate surface, then place the foil on the
surface and indicate to the top surface of the foil. This will give you
the foil thickness.

Kevin,

I looked at that device online, and can't understand how I could use it
to check the depth of an aperture. What am I missing?

Wouldn't a standard drop gage suffice?

For example, mitutoyo p/n 1923 in a range of 0 - .05 in, .0005
graduations.

Subject: [TN] Stencil Thickness Verification

TechNetters,

Does anyone in the industry verify their framed stencils for thickness
upon receipt at their facility? If so, could someone please share what
kind of tool they use?

I'm having difficulty finding such an animal that will accurately
distinguish between 5 and 6 mils.

Thanks for your help,

Leland
