I presume he is thinking you can rest the gage probe on the same flat surface the stencil foil sits on (not the frame!) And then on the top of the stencil foil.

Wouldn't a standard drop gage suffice?
For example, mitutoyo p/n 1923 in a range of 0 - .05 in, .0005
graduations.

Does anyone in the industry verify their framed stencils for thickness
upon receipt at their facility? If so, could someone please share what
kind of tool they use?
I'm having difficulty finding such an animal that will accurately
distinguish between 5 and 6 mils.
