We use a Heidenhain Thickness gage for measuring foil thickness at QC
before mounting the foil. This thickness is recorded in a C of C that is
shipped with the stencil. Care is taken to measure thickness on the
aperture edge of Electroform since that is the true thickness. The gage
consist of a granite table and a plunger probe. Resolution is .01 mils
(.00001") Throat is about 14 inches. Convenient for foils but need to
remove the probe head to clear the 1.5 high rail for measuring framed
stencils.

Bev,

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I'm having a problem finding
one with the resolution I need.

Our frame thickness is 1.5 inches, and the throat depth requirement of
the instrument is 3.5 inches.

Leland

Leland,
Can't you buy a good "c clamp" caliper?

Subject: [TN] Stencil Thickness Verification

TechNetters,

Does anyone in the industry verify their framed stencils for thickness
upon receipt at their facility? If so, could someone please share what
kind of tool they use?

I'm having difficulty finding such an animal that will accurately
distinguish between 5 and 6 mils.

Thanks for your help,

Leland
