Rob,

We have been washing PTH boards with just DI water for about 6 years. Out SMT boards are generally done outside by CMs, but we do rework prototypes in house. Most of the time the DI wash is sufficient to clean the boards. In a few rare cases we have added a steam clean step prior to machine wash. We are not doing BGAs or other large foot print SMT parts and generally our smallest part is 0603. The testing we have had done suggests that our boards meet cleanliness standards.

I know it's late in the day today but I was wondering how many people
out there are cleaning water soluble flux (leaded or lead free process)
with straight DI water? No chemicals added. And have verified the
boards are clean even under low profile parts.
