Actually, your mother-in-law may well be correct!

We offer a product originally designed to clean Copper, but does a fine job on Silver as well.   It removes tarnish only, no metal loss.

The answer is yes, we have experienced solderability issues on boards 
manufactures in 2007 and later.

About the cleaning, what cleaner? My mother in love probably recommends 
me "Tarnishield", but I think it is not the solution.

Could you give me more information?
