TechNetters,
When I was a Nortel we had an internal test method for testing for
uncured silicone in cured material. The fear was the creep migration of
the small chain or ring molecules into switches and connectors. This
would either cause problems because of the material being highly
insulation in its own right or decomposition in the presence of
electrical sparking with the resulting formation of silicon dioxide,
which of course is also insulating.

My question to you all, is do you know of a publically available, either
free or for a price, test method to determine the amount of
unpolymerized (and thus leachable and potentially migratable (is this a
word?)) silicone?

Bev
