Do not send them data ahead of time. Give them the data and see how
long it takes an experienced person to do a program. This will not be
the time it will take you at first but it is a time you should be able
to match once you gain experience.

I haven't done an X-ray head to head comparison yet. I do plan to do
one if our business picks up to the level we were at about 16 months
ago. I was planning on getting an example of a head in pillow or a
crack at the pad (from what I have been hearing these are hard to
detect) and let the finalist go head to head to find them.

Get references and see if any of them have hard input about cost of
usage and support.

Good Luck,

Jerry

Bring 1 or more of your boards (scrap?) and ask the vendor to program
and inspect them.
You may need to bring a cad file to facilitate this. Ease of programming
should be demonstrated on your product, not a demo board.

Subject: [TN] In-Line BGA X-Ray Machine Qualification
Importance: High

Everyone,

If you were planning to visit a couple of in-line X-ray machine vendors
with the purpose of selecting the best product for your process, what
questions and demonstrations would you ask for?

I've started with these...

Cycle times
Ability to detect defects in a repeatable manner Low NTF rates Ease of
programming Ease of operation Years in the business Number of
installations within the US Projected preventive maintenance costs
Projected usage costs (power) Footprint Machine cost Lead-time
requirements Delivery, setup, and training options Ability to
communicate with other vision systems

Please add to my list. My experience here is quite limited, and I know
I'm missing a lot.

Thanks in advance,

Leland
