Actually, that flash drive has been through the washer 9 times now with no
ill effects. And, as I recall, that same flash drive survived a Kayak
trip down a North Carolina river in Hillman's pocket.

Re: [TN] NTC - Component bake out
Hi Mike - I have had the opportunity to run Doug Paul's memory stick thru
the clothes washer/dryer cycle with soap twice and Doug said it still
works fine. The critical parameter is as you described - a good rinse and
bake/dry.
Also, Doug no longer loans me his memory stick.

Re: [TN] Component bake out
I did this with mine, as it was a Friday I borrowed some of the "DI" water
for our steam iron to rinse it over and then just left it in the airing
cupboard over the weekend. It worked fine Monday and still does!
Regards
Mike

Subject: [TN] Component bake out
I dropped my flash drive in a puddle yesterday, it was completely
submerged
for about 5 minutes. I haven't applied any power to it yet, so I'm pretty
sure that it is not completely dead. It is a Sandisk Cruzer - I mention
the
brand and type because it is probably easier to look it up and get an idea
of what it looks like than for me to attempt an adequate description.
My question: How long and at what temperature should I bake this guy to
ensure that when I do plug it in, I don't let the magic smoke out of the
components inside the drive?
Next time it goes in my pants pocket, not my shirt pocket!
Thanks,
Eric Kalgren
