Kevin,

Although I'm not an IPC member, nor is the company I work for, I feel that TechNet is a wealth of knowledge... and occasional humor. To limit the usership would eliminate many knowledgeable people. Would I get the same focused information from Twitter, Facebook or Linked-In? This assumes that my IT folks would even allow connections to these social networking groups. Having received "ACCESS DENIED" pages when trying to find information for work is frustrating as I then must explain why I went to these non-approved or perceived inappropriate websites.

Long live TechNet in its present form. I can cope with the small amount of Junk mail I might receive.

My 2¢.

Phil Nutting

Subject: [TN] membership limitations to Technet

While I highly value the all-inclusive nature of this forum, it is perhaps an exploitable feature as well. I continuously receive emails from people offering services with whom I have had no previous interactions, and I often assume (perhaps incorrectly?) that our contact information and email addresses are being mined from the forum by those who join simply to generate contact lists. Would limiting Technet membership to those from domains whose companies are IPC members, or requiring entering of an IPC membership number to register destroy the all-inclusive nature, or improve the quality?

Does anyone else share these observations? Thoughts?
