Lou, you're just kidding, right?

There is a method listed for micro-blasting, but doesn't specify doing it
with walnut shells. Chris says that in his situation he doesn't have access
to the surface, so micro-blasting (or micro-abrasion) wouldn't be available
to him anyway.

I sure wouldn't be using walnut shells because of the ESD. The ESD voltage
that can be generated with these type of medias are tremendous, and if you
don't have a system that addresses all the ESD issues, you'll remove the
coating but probably kill the board.

Chris, my recollection is that IPC-7721 listed methods for removing CCs of
various types. Haven't looked at it for a few years. I liked the one that
called for blasting with pulverized walnut shells. Louis Hart

Subject: [TN] [spam] Acrylic CC removal

Hello Netters-

Our customer is in dire need for us to remove acrylic CC quickly and without
mechanical help (surface is blind to us in an aluminum case).

Destructive testing is to follow. As long as we don't blow through the
solder mask, we'll be o.k.

Toluene is typically used, but usually requires mechanical help. No time
for mail order proprietary blends.

Our quick tests show that D-limonene might be a possibility.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris
