I would like to associate faces to names. I was IPC some years ago and
went to a technical meeting. There was this guy, he was very verbose and
dominating the meeting. I found out later it was a guy named Dewy.

It would be nice to put face to participants. Maybe that could be done
off forum some how because I would hate the change such a great forum,
just so I get to put a name to a face.

Maybe pictures and bios could be available off forum for those who are
so inclined. I particularly do not like to see picture of myself, nor
read what I write for that matter. In the spirit of John Hancock, who
signed his name boldly on the Constitution, so there would be no
confusion about his identity, commitment and opinion, I would post a
picture, a current one, so if you ever see me at a meeting you would
know who to blame.

comment

I think it works fine the way it is. A social networking site may be
blocked by some organization's IT group. Groupsite currently isn't here
yet, but could be in the future.

I read all TN postings on the listserv web interface, as the individual
e-mails were getting caught in the spam filter. I switched to index (not
even digest) a while back. I browse the index and then go to the web
interface to read the individual messages. It works well for me. It
might be nicer to group the postings by thread, but the web interface
allows you to run through them using "next in topic".

If anybody wants to see my face they can see me on Facebook or LinkedIn.

and pictures of themselves. Unfortunately, this is not feasible on the
software we are currently using. However, we have been experimenting
with Groupsites and would like to offer this functionality to our
Technet participants. Of course, the drawback would be that everyone
would have to move to a new platform. However, Groupsites offers
personal profiles including biographies and photos, easy searching, file
posting and photograph posting, plus the opportunity for better group
communications.
Consider it like a LinkedIn or Facebook, specifically set up for you for
free. Posts can be sent to you in digest form or in real time.

this. I'd especially like any comments on people who can't click through
these links. The site would be set up by IPC and would be accessed
through our site, although you would have to create a free user account
on Groupsites to participate.

Technet. I don't know what this would do specifically but a more
up-to-date interface offering more functionality would certainly attract
more participants, especially among younger people entering the field.
