There is one ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 technical item to be aware of when
installing a new floor..
Flooring per Table 3, the required limit is < 1 x 10E9 ohms tested per
ANSI/ESD S7.1 or ESD TR53 (Compliance Verification).
However, Flooring/Footwear is per Table 2 is to be < 3.5 x 10E7 ohms. So if
you plan to ground personnel via a Flooring/Footwear System, that flooring
should be something like < 1 x 10E6 ohms.
"For standing operations, personnel shall be grounded via a wrist strap
system or by a flooring/footwear system. When a flooring-footwear system is
used, one of the two following conditions shall be met:
A. When the total resistance of the system (from the person, through the
footwear and flooring to the grounding / equipotential bonding system) is
less than 3.5 x 10E7 ohms, Method 1 shall be followed (see Table 2).
B. When the total resistance of the system (from the person, through the
footwear and flooring to the grounding / equipotential bonding system) is
greater than 3.5 x 10E7 ohms and less than 1 x 10E9 ohms, Method 2 shall be
followed (see Table 2 which includes < 100 volt Product Qualification test
per ESD STM97.2 Floor Materials and Footwear-Voltage Measurement in
Combination with a Person)." [ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 section 8.2]

Not sure about the DOP issue, but before you jump in and commit to a
permanent flooring, you may wish to look at the products called Tekstil
and Sigaway.

The Sigaway underweave with the re-usable Tekstil sheet or tile flooring
is an excellent choice, especially in an area already being used for
production. I first saw this product being used at Medtronics, at IBM in
New York and Rochester, Mn, and at Boston Scientific here in Minnesota.
After reviewing the tribocharge testing results and discussing the wear
characteristics with the ESD engineers at these companies, we installed
this product in a small area in what used to be Pemstar in Rochester,
now Benchmark. It was strongly recommended to us by the other engineers
using it, and I found that it was an excellent product when I had it
installed.
It will cost about 75% of the cost of a permanent epoxy-tile floor. You
do not need to move equipment or people out of the area during
installation; it can be installed without interrupting production
(usually a major cost saver). Best of all, the Tekstil tile can be
removed from the Sigaway backing and re-used or moved to a different
location and re-installed on new Sigaway backing later if so desired.
The risk with the epoxy-tile floor is that if the installation is not
done perfectly (cured too long or too short), there are "dead spots"
with reduced drain characteristics, and there is nothing you can do to
fix it. Also, when you eventually leave the building or the area, you
leave the floor behind. It cannot be pulled up.
I had this flooring installed in two other plants after leaving Pemstar,
and they still love it, no negative feedback whatsoever. It looks great
and wears very well.
No, I own no stock in this product. But I do not hesitate to show others
what has worked for well for me, and the portability or dynamic nature
of this flooring has proven to be a big advantage.

Hi All,
We're preparing to install thousands of square feet of ESD flooring in a
new manufacturing space and have different vendors talking to us about
tiles which are, or are not - DOP FREE. A quick search tells us that
DOP is Dioctyl phthalate, a widely used plasticizer used in everything
from plastic buckets to foods.
Questions:
How great a consideration is it that ESD flooring has or does not have
DOP additives?
Is it a long term health concern, subject to any outgassing, leaching,
etc.
Does DOP improve the ESD qualities or longevity of the flooring compared
to flooring that does not contain it?
Any help would be much appreciated,
