I agree with you; planes, like automobiles and just about everything
else, have no clear pedigree anymore.

I also take "pride" if that's the word in my own place. So when I see RR
on
the engines of any plane I'm pleased. I also note that the wings of
Airbus -
and many other planes - are designed and built in UK. Also large part of
avionics, undercarriages and stuff. So wings, avionics, engines, what
else
is there? Actually there is so much work sharing/offsetting to get
customer
contracts these days that I think you would be hard put to say that a
Boeing
or Airbus comes from anywhere in particular. For example recently Boeing
successfully lobbied a major US defence contract for Air refuelling be
cancelled because it went to Airbus/EADS and therefore abroad, not
patriotic, national security, etc. In fact higher proportion of the work
would have been done in US than in Boeing's proposal (just not by
Boeing).
