First, it's important to clarify whether the ranges are based on the companies' global sales or regional (e.g., North American) sales.

Lincoln International looks at it globally, and from an M&A perspective in which the largest companies are most active. Lincoln's tier ranges are:
Large (Tier 1): > $3 billion
Mid (Tier 2): $400 million to $3 billion Small (Tier 3): $100 million to $400 million Micro (Tier 4): < $100 million

IPC customizes its tier ranges for each of its EMS statistical programs with a view to presenting the most useful analysis of the survey data. These ranges may change from year to year based on changes in the survey samples. IPC's ranges reflect the sales volume of North American EMS operations, making them notably lower than Lincoln's global ranges. IPC's monthly North American Statistical Program currently uses the following size tiers:
1: > $100 million
2: $50 million to $100 million
3: $35 million to $50 million
4: $20 million to $35 million
5: $10 million to $20 million
6: < $10 million

Let me know if you have any questions.

Sharon

Subject: [TN] Contract Manufacturer Tier Ratings

Dear 'Netters,

Part of my group and I have been moved into our newly created Global Sourcing organization and I'm being asked for some information concerning our present, highly successful, contract manufacturing strategies. How would the various tier rankings by annual dollar amount be defined today>

I have Tier 1 as $1B and up

Tier 2 as $250M to $1B

Tier 3 as up to $250M

What about the smaller guys, how do they qualify them?

Thanks in advance,

Bob Croslin
