We used Silane A174 for adhesion promotion of parylene - expensive but
only 4 ml consumed per run since it was vacuum deposited in chamber (18"
dia. x 24" height).

I would agree with Rich. I have found that a 5-10% solution (in
isopropanol) Dow Corning Z-6040 organosilane primer is effective at
improving adhesion between between some acyrlics and the substrate, but
that is also a function of the surface energy. But the stuff is God
Awful
Expensive. Some of the other primers we tried, like the Dow Corning
1200
or 1204, used primarily with silicone adhesives, caused a great deal of
dewetting of the coating.

However, three passes of the coating through an in-line alkaline water
wash is asking a lot of an acrylic. We don't let Humiseal 1B31 go
through
our in-line saponified wash. Does nasty things to the coating. A
urethane might be able to, but not an acrylic. At least a pure acrylic.

Dow Corning makes some siloxane compounds that acted well as primers for
epoxy based compounds. They may have some that work well with AR and/or
UR CC's.

Suggest you contact them.

Subject: [TN] Conformal Coat and Solder Coated Outer Layers

To all:

Any ideas on treatments that can be applied to the solder coated outer
layer of a PB to enhance adhesion of UR or AR conformal coating? The
outer layer is a solid ground plane with reflowed tin/lead solder. The
coated assembly needs to be able to withstand multiple (3 or so) passes
through an in-line cleaner using alkaline wash chemistry. Any mechanical
treatments or coating application tips would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
