Bob,

Your TN posting is another example of why it is important to participate

in TN and more importantly why it is essential to read the information

posted and analyze who it comes from and why it was posted and make

decisions based on the credibility of the posting. Most users of

products have nothing to sell you and nothing to gain by sharing their

experiences so their credibility is usually pretty good. I assume that

you don't own a company selling immersion silver chemistry or don't get

a sales commission for advertizing immersion silver. If that is the

case then your posting is extremely credible.

I should also comment that my experience with immersion silver started

in 1995 when Dr. Parker installed the first immersion silver line in

North America which used AlphaLevel. Doing Failure Mode Analysis (FMA)

on telecommunication products for the past 14 years (6 with Lucent

Techologies and 8 with Andrew) I can say with conviction that we have

not experienced any customer failures of products associated with

immersion silver surface finish.

Regards,

George

For years our various PCB suppliers have tried to convince me that all

the problems with ENIG have been overcome. About the time I begin to

consider possibly moving to it, someone on this forum, usually a PCB

supplier, will post that there's no reason to avoid ENIG and there are a

dozen or more responses disputing it with personal experiences. Those

exchanges continue to reinforce that the decision I made years ago to

use Immersion silver on our products was, and still is, a sound one.

I just wanted to say "Thanks" to everyone who contributes to this forum

for helping all of us in making good decisions for our respective

businesses.

Steve

I installed the first immersion silver line in North America in 95. We

built millions of boards with this finish and the only issue brought to

my attention was exposure to a sulfur environment. Multiple reflows did

not present an issue and we stored the boards at customer sites for over

a year without a problem. Our customers did not find it necessary to use

gloves in the assembly operation.

  Good Afternoon,

Any concerns about using immersion silver as a finish. PWB has to take

two

reflow cycles, 1 re-work cycle and one hand solder after the two

reflows.

Parts have to be transported from one part of the country to another

after

the two reflows. Thanks. Steve Kelly
